Welcome to Spineless Reads! So, what the heck are we doing here?

Well, aren't I glad to see you! Welcome to the very first post written at Spineless Reads.

It's midnight on 17 May, 2024 and I just filed the paperwork to officially make Spineless Reads LLC a thing.

I started this place after experiencing the joys and frustrations of being an indie author and an avid reader with few options for supporting indie book shops and small presses in the eBook market. A few conversations with friends (yes, I'm talking about you, Chris Krawczyk!) really showed me how bad this situation is for the bookshops. That's when my plans changed.

You see, I've wrestled with the idea of opening a physical bookshop for several months. And while I've always dreamed of owning and operating a brick and mortar shop, I'm compelled to create something missing from the market. We need an alternative to the BIG eBook vendors, a place that shares its revenue with indie bookshops, publishers, and authors.

And wouldn't it be great to keep the eBooks you read each month regardless of your subscription status? We're not interested in leasing books to you each month. We believe you should own what you buy.

This site has the potential to lift indie publishers, bookshops, and authors trying their damnedest to make a living and impact this industry. It can also bring eBook readers together with their local bookshops in a new and exciting way. And hopefully, we'll level the playing field in the eBook market while we're at it.
